Pilgrims to Jerusalem in the Middle Ages

Pilgrims to Jerusalem in the Middle Ages
This is a translation from a French book published by Imago. It was recommended to me by Don Wilson, an emeritus professor of French Studies who is now a translator. The book describes the life of the pilgrim, based on meticulous research into original sources in French, English, Latin, Italian, and other languages. The book focuses on the period of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, when the Holy Land had already been lost to Christendom and issues of the relative roles of Muslims, Christians, and Jews had come to the fore. It is organized geographically to follow the typical pilgrimage routes. The stories of the various pilgrims vary widely and are rich in quotidian detail. The book itself is elegantly written, attuned to ethnographical issues, and intimately engaged with the personal experience of the pilgrims themselves.
