Computer Typography
Digital Typography by Donald Ervin Knuth, Donald Knuth's influence in computer science ranges from the invention of literate programming to the development of the TeX programming language. One of the foremost figures in the field of mathematical sciences, Knuth has written papers which stand as milestones of development over a wide range of topics. In this collection, the second in the series, Knuth explores the relationship between computers and typography. The present volume, in the words of the author, is the legacy of all the work he has done on typography. When type designers, punch cutters, typographers, book historians, and scholars visited the University while Knuth was working in this field, it gave to Stanford what some consider to be its golden age of digital typography. By the author's own admission, the present work is one of the most difficult books that he has prepared. This is truly a work that only Knuth could have produced.
User-Centered Web Site Development: A Human-Computer Interaction Approach with CDROM by Daniel D. McCracken, Here is a book that presents Web design as an application of key ideas of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). This text is the only one of its kind that addresses Human-Computer Interaction as it relates to website design. It stresses HCI principles, not just Web implementation techniques. The book provides a working knowledge of Web design, aimed at creating Web pages and sites that are attractive and user-friendly, while allowing students to become familiar with the concepts and terminology of Web design as a basis for further study. Major themes include: Human Computer Interaction: Chapters 1-8 cover the importance of knowing your customer and the significance of visual and content organization of a website, as well as navigation design and the crucial issues of prototyping and user testing. Supporting Disciplines: The impact of color, typography, and multimedia are discussed in terms of website development. Major Web Issues: The significance of accessibility, globalization, and personalization are discussed in the context of a successful website. Rich in pedagogy, the book contains more than 300 review questions, exercises, and projects. A full suite of instructor supplements is also available.
Apple Advanced Typography - Apple Advanced Typography (AAT) is Apple Computer's computer software for advanced font rendering, supporting internationalization and complex features for typographers, a successor to Apple's little-used QuickDraw GX font technology of the mid-1990s. It is a set of extensions to the TrueType outline font standard, with similar smartfont features as Adobe and Microsoft's OpenType font format. Apple typography - Apple typography covers several topics concerning typefaces that Apple Computer has used in its marketing, operating systems and industrial design. In the late 1980s Apple developed TrueType, an outline font standard, amongst other technologies created later, including QuickDraw GX and Apple Advanced Typography. Tracking (typography) - In typography, tracking is the process of uniformly increasing or decreasing the space between all glyphs (letters) in a block of text. Tracking is sometimes called character spacing or letter spacing, especially in reference to computer typesetting. Apple Computer, Inc. v. Franklin Computer Corp. - Apple Computer, Inc. v.
